A recent survey on the recent job site Indeed of over 1,000 soon-to-be college graduates, reported that 54% of them felt less confident in finding work after they graduate due to COVID-19’s impact on the economy. In fact, one-third of them thought that they’d face challenges getting a job in a chosen industry (according to BestColleges.com).

According to Gregory Lewis, the three Most In-Demand Jobs Right Now on LinkedIn, based on data from January 2021 include Software Engineer, Salesperson, and Tax Specialist. He remarked, “While the tax season may be predictable, even in COVID times, the past month also saw dramatic growth for a role that you might not expect: receptionist. The number of job posts for receptionists grew by over 22x from December 2020 to January 2021”
A 2019 Pew Research Center study found that 72% of Americans use some type of social media, with YouTube and Facebook being the most widely used platforms.
As more people changed their operations to virtual and online environments, prospects for people with computer and digital engagement skills increased. Some of the most in-demand competencies include social media, mobile/video, social media marketing, and content marketing.
What The New Online Environment Means
The new and increased use of online spaces means that many jobs that were in-person or in-office can be transferred virtually.
For example, based on the LinkedIn and Pew Research Center data stated above receptionists, software engineers, tax specialists, and social media marketers will be in high demand.
The in-office job of a Receptionist can easily be transferred to online skills such as virtual assistance, data entry specialists, phone calling personnel and transcription.
