How JET Students Are Winning Online—And Bringing Others with Them

The JET Programme Is Back—And It’s Creating Real Opportunities!
Something powerful is happening inside the JET Programme.
This year, a new cohort of students is stepping into the world of digital skills, freelancing, and online income—and they’re about to experience a life-changing journey.
- The JET Programme is officially back for 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited!
- New students are diving into hands-on learning that will help them build skills, earn money, and create opportunities for themselves.
They’re joining a supportive community of like-minded individuals who will inspire and motivate them every step of the way. - This is more than just training—it’s a movement.
But what exactly is the JET Programme, and why is it making such a big impact?
What Is the JET Programme?
The JET Programme is a career accelerator designed to help Jamaican youth gain real-world digital skills and access online income opportunities.
Led by The Trust for the Americas, this initiative provides young people between 17 and 34 years old with hands-on training in:
Freelancing, AI tools, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship.
Business strategies to start earning online.
Networking, mentorship, and real-world job opportunities.
By partnering with Internet Income Jamaica (IIJ) and other local organizations, The Trust for the Americas ensures that students receive not just training, but also job-readiness tools and access to income-generating opportunities.
And as you’ll see, this programme is already changing lives.
The Power of Community: Roshini’s Story
Some people learn a skill and keep it to themselves. Others? They use what they’ve learned to create opportunities for others.
That’s exactly what Roshini Bartley did.
- Instead of just applying her new VA (Virtual Assistant) skills, she started outsourcing paid tasks to other students in our Facebook group.
- She provided work in appointment setting, data entry, and graphic design—giving others a chance to earn while gaining real-world experience.
- She proved that when you build a network, you open doors—not just for yourself, but for everyone around you.
Her story is a reminder that success isn’t a one-person race. The more you collaborate, connect, and support others, the more you grow too.
So ask yourself: Who can YOU help today?
Your Skills Are Valuable—Put Them on Display!
When Julia Boyde started designing graphics for her Fiverr profile, she had no idea it would lead to her first paid request.
- Her mother saw her skills and immediately asked her to design a poster for her music business.
- One small action turned into a real job opportunity.
Lesson? If you’re waiting for the “perfect” moment to start—don’t. Put your skills out there. Show people what you can do. Whether it’s a social media post, a free sample, or even a passion project—visibility leads to opportunity.
Confidence = Clients (Just Ask Abbeygale)
Abbeygale had a skill. She just needed the confidence to talk about it.
After gaining motivation from the JET Programme, she finally started speaking about her tutoring business.
- She shared what she does.
- People listened.
- She landed her first paying client just from word-of-mouth.
So many of us underestimate what we already know. But if you don’t tell people what you do, how will they know to hire you?
Think about it: What’s ONE thing you can share today? Who in your network already needs what you offer?
More Visibility = More Sales: Jameilia’s Business Breakthrough
Already have a business but struggling to get customers?
Jameilia Clarke had an online store, but after learning how to market herself properly through JET, everything changed.
- She designed promotional posters to grab attention.
- She shared them strategically, increasing visibility.
- Orders started rolling in—9 in total!
Even her family members noticed and placed orders.
Her story proves a simple truth: If people don’t know what you’re selling, they can’t buy from you.
If you’re running a business, how are YOU making sure people know about it?
You Don’t Always Need a New Skill—Sometimes, You Just Need the Right Strategy
Kimberly Flowers didn’t need to learn something new—she just needed to maximize what she already knew.
- She runs an embroidery business, but the JET Programme helped her level up her marketing skills.
- She improved her Canva design abilities to create high-quality flyers.
- She learned to use Facebook & Instagram to reach more customers.
- And guess what? She started getting more orders!
This is proof that sometimes, it’s not about starting from scratch—it’s about refining what you already do.
So ask yourself: What’s one skill or business idea you already have that you can start improving today?
