Recently, Internet Income Jamaica (IIJ) took a meaningful step in its mission to empower Jamaican youth with digital skills, donating $25,000 for a digital whiteboard at Rusea’s High School in Lucea, Hanover. This donation was complemented by Rusea’s High’s 1998–2003 alumni group, who contributed new chairs for the school’s computer lab, with additional support from Gateway Cooperative Credit Union. Together, these contributions have transformed the lab into a modern, dynamic learning space that will better prepare students for the digital future. Through this collaborative effort, we’re opening doors for young Jamaicans to engage with technology in an environment that fosters growth.
Advancing Digital Skills for Rusea’s High Students
Digital skills are critical to the future success of Rusea’s High students. Beyond creating new career pathways, they enrich learning, foster independence, and inspire innovation. At IIJ, we’ve seen firsthand how digital literacy empowers young people to launch businesses, find remote work, and access global opportunities.

With the digital whiteboard from IIJ, alumni-sponsored chairs, and Gateway Cooperative Credit Union contributions, Rusea’s High School now offers an engaging and interactive computer lab. Teachers can use visual aids to make complex concepts accessible, while students can dive into digital tools that spark curiosity and build confidence. This lab begins many students’ journeys into the digital world, equipping them with skills that encourage lifelong learning and resilience.
Lakeshia Coley: A Proud Alumna Championing IIJ’s Mission
For Lakeshia Coley, a Rusea’s High alumna representing Internet Income Jamaica, this donation was an opportunity to give back to her roots. Lakeshia’s personal experience with education’s transformative power motivates her commitment to IIJ’s mission of empowering Jamaican youth. Her involvement underscores our belief that supporting students means more than providing equipment—it’s about investing in their potential and impact on the community.
Through alumni like Lakeshia, we see the connections that drive our mission, reminding us that each resource we provide fosters opportunities for students to succeed and contribute positively to society.
Our Commitment to Jamaica’s Digital Future
This donation to Rusea’s High School reflects IIJ’s broader commitment to making digital education accessible across Jamaica. Through partnerships, training programs, and community support, we’re building a future where young Jamaicans are equipped to thrive in a digital world.
As more students gain digital skills, their impact will reach across industries and communities, positioning Jamaica to thrive in a tech-driven global landscape. If our mission inspires you, we invite you to support IIJ—whether through partnerships, sponsorships, or by sharing our story. Together, we can bring digital education to every Jamaican student, creating a more connected future for the nation.
